How to choose kids furniture
- Check the ceiling. For bunk and loft beds, leave about 30 to 36 inches between the top mattress and the ceiling. This matters in Massachusetts Capes and attic bedrooms with sloped ceilings.
- Follow safety basics. Top bunks are generally recommended for kids 6 and older. Use a mattress thickness within the limit the bed lists so the guardrail stays effective.
- Buy for the next five years. A full bed or a twin with a trundle handles sleepovers and a growing teen. A desk of about 40 to 48 inches wide fits a laptop and schoolbooks.
